Why the Proposed Tax Hurts Our Members

There's a proposed change that threatens everything that makes credit unions like ours different.  Some lawmakers are considering removing the federal tax-exempt status of credit unions, treating us like for-profit banks.

We want to be clear:  CBI Federal Credit Union stands firmly against this proposal.  The core difference lies in our structure and purpose.

We're Member-Owned
We're Not-for-Profit
We Invest in People, Not Profits.

A Tax on Credit Unions Is a TAX on You

Federal lawmakers are considering tax reforms that could threaten credit unions and the benefits they provide.  Join the fight to preserve our tax-exempt status and keep financial services affordable for you, our members.

Credit unions have been essential to the financial well-being of millions of Americans for over a century. As member-owned, not-for-profit cooperative financial institutions, they are democratically governed by a volunteer board and operate under a “one member, one vote” principle. Preserving their tax-exempt status is crucial for maintaining their ability to provide affordable financial services.

We invite you to join CBI FCU in the Don’t Tax My Credit Union initiative. Click the button below to send your message to your U.S. Representative and Senators to them you’re not aligned with efforts to add tax on credit unions.  Protecting credit union tax-exempt status allows credit unions like CBI FCU to continue to serve you and provide services that continue to support our members’ overall financial well-being.
